Originally a clinical psychologist in Brazil, artist Silvana LaCreta Ravena uses encaustics as a medium to explore memory. By combining beeswax, resin and dried pigment, she creates custom colors that reflect what she is seeing in her mind’s eye. Whether working solely with multiple layers of wax and texture or incorporating paper and dried and silken flowers as in her Pompeii series, Ravena creates complex, abstract worlds. In addition to encaustics, she also works in oils, acrylics, watercolors and wearable art.
